Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.) program is designed to prepare graduates to excel in a diverse, rapidly changing, and technologically oriented society.

Graduates are prepared to assume vital roles in the improvement of client health care outcomes. General education and state-mandated common prerequisites for nursing form the foundation of study for the major. The nursing curriculum is built upon the principles of critical thinking, communication, health promotion, cultural connectedness, and adherence to professional and ethical standards.

All applicable FGCU academic programs prepare students for licensure in the state of Florida. Requirements for licensure and certification vary by profession and by state. Students should check the licensure requirements for the state they plan to work in before enrollment at FGCU. • The BSN Program at FGCU is a specialized admission, upper-division, full-time program offered for students designated as a Pre-Nursing major. Take a moment to learn more about the Specialized Admissions Program. Admission to the BSN Program is competitive. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program.

The FGCU School of Nursing offers two pathways towards the completion of a BSN:

• Accelerated BSN (ABSN) Pathway
  • ABSN students are admitted in the Summer semester.
    • ABSN students complete the program in four (4) consecutive semesters.
    • Traditional students are admitted in the Fall and Spring semesters.
      • Fall admission students complete the program in five (5) consecutive semesters including summer.
      • Spring admission students complete the program in six (6) consecutive semesters including summer.

      Admission Process

      • Pre-Nursing students must apply and be admitted to FGCU by the BSN Program deadlines and satisfy all applicable university admission requirements in order to be considered for the BSN Program. Please plan in advance as the admission process to the university may take 8 to 12 weeks.
      • BSN applicants are required to submit a BSN Supplemental Application in NursingCAS, a centralized application system for nursing programs accessed through NursingCAS, administered by the School of Nursing. Please review the BSN SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATION IN NURSINGCAS GUIDE TRADITIONAL AND ACCELERATED PATHWAYS
      • BSN applicants must complete Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II with Labs prior to submitting the BSN Supplemental Application in NursingCAS.
      • Pre-Nursing students should complete 60 credit hours, not including IDS 3920 (University Colloquium), prior to commencing the BSN Program. Pre-Nursing students who have not completed all required coursework (not including Anatomy & Physiology I and II with Labs) at the time the BSN Supplemental Application in NursingCAS is submitted MUST provide a written plan for completion of the prerequisite course(s). This is part of the BSN Supplemental Application in NursingCAS form.
      • A final transcript showing all coursework must be submitted to FGCU Admissions Office. Transcripts must also be entered into BSN Supplemental Application in NursingCAS.
        • Accelerated BSN pathway applicants must have an earned bachelor's degree or they must be in the process of completing their Bachelor's degree at the time of application. Conditional admission is offered to qualified applicants pursuant to the successful completion of the Bachelor's degree. Official transcripts must be provided prior to the semester start date.

        • Spring Admission: April 25 - May 31
        • Summer Admission (ABSN Pathway only): September 1 - October 14
        • The next admission opportunity for traditional pathway students will be for the Spring of 2025.
        • The next admission opportunity for accelerated pathway students will be for the Summer of 2025.

        Notification of Acceptance into BSN Program
        

        • BSN Program acceptance decisions will be made approximately 12 weeks after the application deadline.
        • Applicants will be notified by FGCU Eagle Email. Please check that your Eagle Mail email is active.
        • Students who are not accepted into the program must re-apply as applications are not moved on to the next admission cycle.

        Institutional Accreditation Information on FGCU institutional accreditation is available at Office of the Provost Program Accreditation The baccalaureate degree program in nursing at Florida Gulf Coast University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.         • Submit a FGCU Application for university admission and satisfy all applicable university admission requirements.
        • Submit a completed School of Nursing B.S.N. supplemental application in NursingCAS.
        • Have and maintain, prior to B.S.N. Program admission, a minimum overall GPA of at least 3.0 on all coursework attempted.
        • Complete common prerequisites for nursing, with a grade of C or higher. Students who have not completed all required coursework at the time of B.S.N. Program application must include a plan for completion of the course(s) as part of the School of Nursing B.S.N. supplemental application. A final transcript documenting successful completion of the course(s) must be submitted to Undergraduate Admissions.
        • Complete Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab and Anatomy & Physiology II with Lab prior to the School of Nursing B.S.N. supplemental application deadline.
        • Complete the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) prior to the School of Nursing B.S.N. supplemental application deadline, with scores calculated for B.S.N. Program applicants. The original (first-attempt) TEAS exam results must be submitted as part of the School of Nursing B.S.N. supplemental application.
        • Applicants who have attended, but not completed, another registered nursing program must provide a letter of good standing from the Dean of the School of Nursing (or designee) that addresses the following: potential for success in a B.S.N. program, safety in providing nursing care, interpersonal communication skills, and other information the director deems important. B.S.N. applicants from an accredited baccalaureate B.S.N. program must also submit course syllabi and topical outlines for all nursing courses to be evaluated for nursing equivalency.

        • Complete a minimum of 124 credits.
        • Complete a minimum of 64 of the 124 credits at the upper division (3000-4999 level).
        • Earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 for all coursework attempted at FGCU.
        • Satisfy the residency requirement: Complete at least 31 of the last 64 credits at FGCU.
        • Satisfy the College-Level Skills and foreign language entrance requirements.
        • Satisfy the Service-Learning requirement.
